In November 2015, The Jewish Genealogical Society of Greater Philadelphia (JGASGP) Library, was relocated to the Historical Society of Pennsylvania (HSP) at 1300 Locust Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 19107.

Alternately, you can go to HSP’s home page at https://hsp.org. Click on “Collections”, then select Catalogs and Research Tools and click on “Discover” Online Catalog. On the “Discover” page, you will see a blank box. Insert the letters JGSP in the blank space and click the FIND button to the right. (Do not use the letters JGSGP).
Visiting the Historical Society of Pennsylvania
The HSP is a non-circulating research library. Items must be used at the Library of the HSP under their rules and regulations. Please read “Plan Your Visit” on HSP’s website.
When you check-in at the Front Desk, you will be asked for an ID. At the desk, you can order up to three items at time. It will take the librarian about 15-20 minutes to bring them to you. The JGSGP collection is located in the closed stacks. Access to the closed stacks is not open to the general public.
You are welcome to bring a laptop and a camera, but these devices must be used in accordance with HSP’s rules. A free locker is available to store your personal items. There is a small lunchroom.
Hours of Operation.
Tues. and Thurs: 12:30 pm to 5:30 pm; Wed. 12:30 pm to 8:30 pm; Fri. 10:00 am to 5:30 pm. It is best to call the HSP and ask if they are open on the day you choose to visit, or visit the website for closure dates.
Admittance Fee
There is a charge of $8.00 to use the HSP Library and access the JGASGP collection, unless you have a valid student ID or are a member of the Historical Society of Pennsylvania.
